COMPANY PROFILE: Image Studios began over 25 years
ago, and has grown steadily by developing a reputation for quality and service.
Their two major markets are high-end mail order catalogs and newspaper inserts.
INITIAL PREPRESS SITUATION:
Researching digital cameras in
1990, Image Studios' owners determined that to actually use digital photography
for commercial production, they would have to learn about color separation. They
purchased a workstation and learned how to adjust contrast and hue on digitally
sourced images. They talked with several large color separators about a possible
alliance sharing knowledge, resources and customer bases. In the end, they
decided to bring a full prepress system into their own facilities and offer
existing and new customers color expertise from photography through to final
film and proofs.
CLIENT ISSUES:
- Configuration of a completely upgradeable system to link with digital cameras,
but also to perform color scanning, image manipulation, assembly,
trapping and film output.
- Technical support for system to minimize risk.
- Production back-up and experienced consulting services to prepare for
running a new business venture with minimal learning curve risk.
- Hiring an experienced staff and placing customer service as a high
priority in the new operation
CHANGE IN PREPRESS SITUATION:
All Systems Color installed 3 Macintosh Quadra 950 workstations, an
Optronics ColorGetter II Pro scanner, a 3M Rainbow digital proofing system,
Rampage RIP with TrapIT utility, and an Afga SelectSet 5000 imagesetter. After
installation and one month of training, additional output capacity is being
installed, as planned, and Image Studios has captured more customers and revenue
for both color separations and photography.
