COMPANY: Hanson Printing
Brockton,
MA
TYPE OF COMPANY: Commercial
sheetfed printer
COMPANY PROFILE: Founded in 1936 by
the Hanson family, Hanson Printing has been serving the printing industry for
sixty years. There are 50 employees working two shifts at the plant. Over the
past several years Hanson has seen it's press capacity increase with the
addition of a Hiedleberg 5 color sheetfed press, 2 two color presses, a variety
of binding and cutting equipment.
INITIAL PREPRESS SITUATION:
Prior to moving
into producing composite four color separated pages in-house, Hanson has been
working with Macintosh workstations, HELL S-2000 scanner, capstan imagesetter.
In house film prep was conventional, using manual stripping.
CLIENT ISSUES:
- Produce 4-up imposed films.
- Fully automatic trapping on the fly.
- A drum recorder capable of producing four color films up to
300-line screen.
- Reduce the bottleneck in pre-press to take advantage of the press capacity.
- Increase the quality Hanson is able to produce.
- Implement technologies that will have a growth path towards CTP.
CHANGE IN PREPRESS SITUATION:
All Systems Integration consulted on the equipment that would best
fit the direction Hanson wanted to achieve, keeping in mind an architecture
that would allow for future upgradability. The system installed
consisted of a Linotype-HELL Herkules drum recorder, RamPage Ripping
solution with Auto Trapping, Novell Server with switched 100-baseT
networking.
